Re. Raising Funds for S.K.I.P.

Firstly, I hope you and the children are well.

Further to several conversations with the Directors, regarding raising funds for S.K.I.P., I wish to inform you that my son Kenneth and I intend to participate in a sponsored walk in the autumn of this year to lend our support to the fund raising. So that fund raising could be maximised as soon as possible, we thought it would be a good idea to invite all S.K.I.P. members and families, including friends of course, to join us.

We had originally investigated joining pre-arranged sponsored walks, but there are several shortcomings in doing so, therefore this idea was rejected. Some very keen and fit S.K.I.P. members however, do intend to take part in the Great Scottish Walk to be held in June this year. The team also did the same walk 2 years ago very successfully.

Our planned route is to walk the 5K (3 ½ miles) road around Arthur's Seat in the Queen’s Park in Edinburgh. We would like as many families as possible to join us. This route was chosen, as most people know the park, there are few roads to cross during the walk and it is also a nice walk due to the scenery and wildlife.

We have confirmed the 28th September 2008 with Historic Scotland, to avoid clashing with other charity events, to give everyone as much notice as possible and so that enough sponsors can be obtained. This is a Sunday and part of the road in the Park is normally closed to road traffic. The weather is usually pretty good at this time.

In the first instance, I would be obliged if all parents and carers could let me know of their interest in joining our sponsored walk, via a short note or by e-mail by then end of this month if possible, using the contact details given below. Once we know of numbers, further information will be sent out to you, complete with sponsorship forms and safety literature etc.

The Park is however, very hilly in places and I would appreciate if any fit persons (16 year old and over), who could assist parents and carers with pushing wheelchairs and prams etc to nominate themselves. Again, please indicate your interest in volunteering via a short note or by e-mail using the contact details below.

Just to let you know that I organised a walk last September for Kenneth’s School’s After School Care Group and this was a great success and we raised £2226.00. Kenneth's School will also being participating again. Please note that any money that you raise would go to S.K.I.P. only.

If you would like to discuss any matter whatsoever, please contact myself on 0131 653 6330 or 07769 931 605.

Yours sincerely,

Sandy. Sutherland
